About

About Mekong Cruiser

Mekong Cruiser helps travellers choose a river cruise on the lower Mekong: a delta boat inside Vietnam or a ship into Cambodia. We are not a cruise line and operate no boats. We read what operators publish, compare it, and answer enquiries by email.

What we do

The lower Mekong has two kinds of cruise and well over a dozen boats and ships, sold by their operators and by agents in several countries and currencies. Comparing them means reading operator pages, product PDFs and agents' listings, noticing where they disagree, and checking what each fare leaves out. That is the work we do.

Every fact on this site carries its source and the date we read it. Where two sources disagree, as they do on AmaDara's cabin count, AmaMaya's first season and Bassac's cabin numbers, we say so instead of choosing the figure that reads better. Where an operator does not publish something, such as Heritage Line's inclusions, we write 'not stated' and ask.

How an enquiry works

You send the form with a month and the number of travellers. We check which boats and ships sail your dates, what the water will be doing, and what each fare covers. We reply by email with two or three options laid out line by line, each with the operator's own terms. If you choose one, we ask the operator for the cabin and pass on its confirmation and payment terms in writing.

The how to book page sets out the steps in full, and the pricing page explains how a quote is built.

What we are not

  • Not a cruise line. We do not own, operate or crew any vessel.
  • Not an operator's representative. Naming a ship on this site does not mean we hold a contract or an allocation on it.
  • Not a land tour company. We deal with overnight cruises; we can note the obvious road or air link at each end, but we do not build delta land tours.
  • Not a review site. We describe what operators publish and what we can check.
Ship names

Boats and ships on this site are named as public facts, each with the page we read and the date we read it. Mekong Cruiser is not a cruise line, does not operate any vessel and does not speak for any operator. Naming a ship does not mean we hold a contract or an allocation on it; availability and fares are whatever the operator confirms on the day you ask.

What we do not do well

  • Laos. The upper Mekong cruises between Huay Xai, Luang Prabang and Vientiane are a different river section, and we do not cover them.
  • Very short notice. If you need to sail in the next few days, contact an operator directly; our replies depend on the operator answering us first.
  • Large groups. Above about fifteen people, many of the delta boats are too small, and a whole-ship arrangement is a matter to settle with the operator directly.
  • Talking it through by phone. We work by form and email, in English. If you need a conversation before deciding, we are not the right service.

Why there are no reviews here

We do not publish customer reviews or testimonials. A review on a site that sells the thing being reviewed is hard to trust, and the experience on a river cruise depends as much on the month, the water and the ship as on anything we do. For independent opinion of a specific ship, read the reviews on independent cruise and travel sites, and weigh recent ones above old ones, since several ships have been refitted or renamed.

What we can offer instead is the evidence: each ship's facts with their source and date, and a written comparison of your options that you can check line by line.

How the facts are kept current

Cruise facts go out of date quickly. Ships are renamed and refitted: RV Lotus, for example, was built in 2011 as AmaLotus and refurbished in 2016, and Pandaw added four suites to Tonle Pandaw in a 2025 retrofit. New ships arrive, as Viking Tonle did in 2025, and fares change with every sale. Each fact on this site therefore carries the date we read it, and the date is the first thing to look at.

When we prepare options for an enquiry, we read the operator's pages again on that day rather than relying on what is printed here. If you notice something on this site that no longer matches an operator's own page, send it through the form and we will check it and correct the page.

Where to start

If you have not decided between a delta boat and a ship, start with delta boat or Cambodia ship. If you have, go straight to the cruise overview. If you know your month, the water page tells you what that month changes.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Do you work for any of the cruise lines named here?

No. Ships are named as public facts with their sources. We do not speak for any operator.

Why should we book through you rather than direct?

You do not have to. What we add is a comparison across operators, a season check for your dates and answers to the questions operators' pages leave open. If booking direct suits you better, we say so.

Do you cover the upper Mekong in Laos?

No. Heritage Line's Anouvong and other Laos ships sail a different section of the river.

In which language do you work?

English, by email.
